Nilima (b.1956) had graduated from Indian College of Arts, Kolkata as its first woman sculptor and with a gold medal in Visual Arts (Sculpture) from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in 197~. She is also a post-graduate (Diploma) in Appreciation of Indian Arts.

Her works in metal resonate with an understanding and warmth with direct concern and overwhelming faith towards life around her, preserving elements and predicaments in undertone. In spite of their frailty and vulnerability the treatment in her works unmistakably reaffirms human dignity and virtuosity in mundane. The soul of her works lies in the embodiment of an aspiration to be, to participate and to give from a convenient anonymity without compulsions or pretensions.

Irrespective of size, these works in metal breathes movement and volume tending to expand for monumentality with grace and poise.
