Vijender Sharma was born in Delhi in 1962, and started his career by doing book covers and paintings for serials. After completing his bachelors and masters degree from Delhi College of Art there was no looking back.

This distinction-holder gold medalist of DCA fetched 38,000 from his very first solo exhibition. But today his canvases touch the figure in lakhs.

Earlier his patrons were the eminent Ambanis & Birlas but after seeing his work; India's Missile man and honorable President Sri APJ Abdul Kalam bought his painting and also invited him to make his Portrait, which Vijender Sharma will make on the spot.

According to Mr Vijender Sharma, "Invitation from honorable President is an honor and moment of pride for me. I am a born artist; I still remember that most of the time when kids of my age used to play, I was busy with my drawing books and colours. My father was in police, and always wanted me to follow his steps and give some entrance test for the government job."

"But I was firm about my career as a painter. There was no one in my family who was interested in painting but after my first exhibition they all show their faith in me."

His first Solo Exhibition was organised in 1989 at Shridharani Art Gallery in New Delhi. Then came solo exhibition at LTG Art Gallery, Art Indus, Shri Dharini Art Gallery by Art Indus in New Delhi and Harmony Show by Reliance at Nehru Centre-Mumbai.

In 1987 he became part of the Group Exhibition, which was organised at National Exhibition, New Delhi.

From that year onwards he participated in various group exhibition which includes LTG Art Gallery, Park Sheraton-Chennai, Freedom gallery-New Delhi, Art Indus-New Delhi, Harmony show-Mumbai, Nehru Centre-London, Action India, Art junction- New Delhi by Nafisa Ali, Birla Academy-Calcutta, 'Silent Auction' by French Embassy etc.

Vijender Sharma has also bagged many prestigious awards like- Sahitya Kala Parishad in 1986, All India Police Meet in 1987, Pt. Ravi Shankar Award (College of Art) in 1990, Yuva Mahotsav- Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi and AIFACS (Scholarship Award) New Delhi in the year 1990.

His work is a combination of reality and this is the greatest strength that he does not prepare anything prior to his work. He is so spontaneous that, the moment he holds the painting brush, the creativity is shown on the canvas.

He can make paintings of oil canvas, use of watercolors, pencil, and acrylic colour.

Besides being an eminent painter, he is generous and also works for human cause. His contribution to the Indian Television is tremendous, as he has contributed paintings for TV serials like B.R Chopra's Mahabharata, Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana and Vikram Aur Betal.
